Rise to the Challenge: Strategies for Enhancing Your Performance in Online Gaming
The present study aims to develop and validate a psychometrically sound inventory for measuring players’ game challenge preferences. To this end, a structural equation model (SEM) was conducted on the data collected from the UK and USA using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Using the promax rotation method instead of varimax, four latent challenge preference factors were identified: Physical, Analytical, Socioemotional, and Insight. Combined with the participants’ genre play habits and play motivations, the final model fit RMSEA 0.070, CFI 0.945, TLI 0.924, and SRMR 0.060. The validation results suggest that the 12-item CHA is a valid instrument for investigating players’ challenge preferences.
